As the sun shone and balloons popped in the wind, the playground was opened by the Rev Scott McCarthy.

People gathered in what used to be the former school playground to be the first to see and try out the new equipment provided by Jupiter Play.

Some of these included members of staff from Tesco in Lockerbie and Annan who had helped raise the funds through the Tesco Bags-for-help scheme.

There were also members of the community council which had contributed to the effort.

It marked the end of two years' work but the beginning of a time when locals and visitors can enjoy a family friendly place to rest and play in the beautiful valley of Eskdalemuir.
