BUSINESS Gateway Dumfries & Galloway is bringing six of its excellent Be Your Own Boss workshops to the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm during September.

The free workshops are delivered by industry experts and will concentrate on many of the key knowledge elements needed when starting or running your own business.

The Start-Up Awareness workshop is ideal for anyone contemplating starting a new business but unsure of the process and the legalities.

It also sets the framework for the other workshops in the Be Your Own Boss series. It is on Tuesday the 12th from 10am to 1pm.

The finance and planning workshop will engage the attendees in planning for the success of their new venture.

Every business needs a plan; it is a great way of setting goals, of organising thoughts and, if the business needs finance, it helps at the bank. This is on Tuesday the 12th from 2pm to 5pm.

In the book-keeping workshop the trainer will help candidates develop a clearer understanding of business expenses, what can be claimed and what cannot.

They will learn basic book-keeping but to a high enough standard to do their self-assessment tax return. This is on Thursday, the 21st from 10am to 1pm.

The sales and marketing workshop will help candidates identify their target clients, the importance of market research and some simple techniques to identify the features and benefits of the business. The date is Thursday, the 21st from 2pm to 5pm.

The very popular interactive Facebook from scratch workshop will show attendees how to create their very own Facebook page for the business.

It is equally applicable to established businesses as well as new starts. Candidates will learn about Facebook from the ground up; no previous experience is required.

Facebook is the most popular social media for business so learn to use it from the experts. The date is Tuesday, the 19th from 10am to 1pm.

The final workshop in the Be Your Own Boss series is for those businesses which sell online.

These could be crafters, traders, artists or photographers, for example. The course will teach some great best practice and tips to help them get found in a very crowded marketplace.

It also covers getting paid. It is being held on Tuesday, the 19th from 2pm to 5pm.

All events can be booked online at www.bgateway.com/events or by calling the booking hotline on 01387 808738.
