Cornet duo goes to the polls

VOTERS will have two choices when they go to the polls this Friday to elect the 2017 Langholm Cornet.

Both Stuart Murray and Iain Little stood for the role last year.

Stuart, 22, is the son of Leslie and Gillian Murray of Townfoot. He has just completed a politics and history degree at Stirling University and has applied to do a post-graduate course in international conflict and co-operation at Stirling. Currently, he is working at Latimer’s where his dad is employed.

He was one of the first members of the young riders’ club and rode the Castle Craigs for the first time in 2008 and the Common Riding in 2009. Stuart is a member of the Castle Craigs committee and a Common Riding member.

His late grandfather Ian Murray was Cornet 60 years ago.

Iain Little, 23, who lives in Charles Court, is a secondary school teacher in Carlisle and is the son of Steven and Elaine Little.

Iain is the vice-captain of Langholm Legion FC and help to coach the junior team. He previously coached rugby in Langholm and Canonbie schools and, when fixtures allow, he plays rugby for Langholm.

He joined the young riders’ club when it was founded and is on the Castle Craigs committee. He first rode the Castle Craigs and the Common Riding in 2004.
