Praises sung at flower festival

A FOUR-DAY flower festival in Liddesdale parish church where more than 20 displays were arranged around the building has been hailed a success.

Favourite hymns was the theme of the festival, which was organised to help raise funds for the church. A Songs of Praise service on Sunday evening allowed members of the congregation to say which hymns were their favourites.

One of the organisers, Beatrice Scott, said: “It’s been a busy four days and was very successful.

“All the money to buy the flowers was donated and all the food was given for nothing so our expenses were quite low.

“Newcastleton is a great place for something like this and we had a good service – the singing was tremendous. There were visitors from all over – Cumbria, Annan and Jedburgh as well as a couple from Orkney.”
