THE new autumn season at the Buccleuch Centre blasts off with a rare opportunity to see a solo performance by Karen Matheson, the voice of Capercaillie.
After huge demand, Scotland’s premier Gaelic vocalist, widely recognised as the haunting vocals of Celtic super-group Capercaillie, hits the road for some rare solo performances with her band – James Grant on guitars, Ewen Vernal on double bass and Donald Shaw on piano.
Karen, who was awarded best Gaelic singer at the inaugural Scottish folk awards, began performing as a child in her village hall on the west coast of Scotland.
The concert is on Sunday, September 7 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £13.50.
To see U2 live is an unbeatable experience. To see ZU2 live is the next best thing and they will be at the Buccleuch Centre on Wednesday, September 10.
When ZU2 set out, they made no secret of their love for the sound of U2. As for the way they looked, they clearly had thought this through, too, creating a tribute which transcends all the trappings of the genre.
Aside from the consummate skill as performers, it is their complete regard for U2 that has made them Europe’s most authentic U2 tribute band.
The concert begins at 7.30pm and tickets are £15.

The Rowan Tree Theatre Company celebrates its 21st birthday with a double bill at Newcastleton village hall on Thursday, September 11. It is also at the Bowhill Theatre near Selkirk on Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6.
Nancy Sleekit is a superbly comic piece by Donald Campbell about a very merry widow. Directed by Sean Kane, artistic director of Edinburgh's Theatre Enigma, and performed by Zoe Hunter, it is a dark, comic tale of a mourning widow.
This play won a Fringe First several years ago. Widowed Nancy stands by her husband's coffin in mourning clothes – but how genuine is her grief? And how did her husband – and his predecessors – meet their end?
This production will intrigue and entertain as you follow the exploits of this very merry widow.
The Herd of Standlan, ranked as one of the finest in the Scots tongue, is an early short story by John Buchan.
It appeared in Rowan Tree’s early repertoire and now finds a new interpretation under the direction of A C Wilson, who recently directed The Viewing Room at the Arts Theatre London.
Tweeddale shepherd Gideon Scott, played by Colin Moncrieff, risks his own life to save a young laird, and through the night suffers from the visitations of ghostly figures from his own past. In the end, has his effort been worthwhile?
Buchan, master of suspense, has created a brilliant text for performance in this piece.
Together, these plays make a superb evening’s entertainment to celebrate this very special milestone in the company’s history.
Tickets are £7. To book ring 013873 75251 or for Bowhill call 01750 22204 or go to www.bowhill.org
