Driver banned after knocking down cyclist

A 33-YEAR-OLD motorist who caused three cyclists to take evasive action and then reversed and collided with one cycle near Langholm has been banned from driving for a year.

Paul Winter of Crossbankhead, Westerkirk was also fined £400 after being found guilty at Dumfries Sheriff Court of driving dangerously on a minor road near Westerkirk in January at an excessive speed for the prevailing conditions, failing to keep his vehicle under control, mounting the verge and swerving from side to side.

He admitted shouting and swearing at cyclist Gordon Johnstone who had been knocked down, stepping on the wheel of his bicycle and committing a breach of the peace.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £200 to Mr Johnstone.
