MSP calling for better support for tourism business

DUMFRIES MSP Elaine Murray met Sandi Hellowell of VisitScotland on Monday to discuss how restructuring would affect the services offered by VisitScotland to tourism businesses in the region.

Dr Murray, who was accompanied by Dumfries and Galloway MP Russell Brown, said: “Businesses have raised concerns about the way in which Dumfries and Galloway is being marketed by VisitScotland and some feel that the region is not promoted in a sufficiently high-profile manner.

“Added to that, the Scottish government has decreed that the VisitScotland boundaries should mirror the new regional boundaries for Scottish Enterprise.

“So, instead of VisitScotland (Dumfries and Galloway) we now have a south of Scotland organisation.

“From the reports we have received, staff have been lost in Dumfries and there is concern in the industry here that efforts will be concentrated on the Scottish Borders.”
