An afternoon stroll with a sudden twist

THEY may be a more common and spectacular sight in America’s mid-west but twisters are also a fairly frequent phenomenon in the UK.
Langholm man Jonathan Hawes and his son, Reece, were walking on Warbla last Tuesday afternoon when they spotted a freak weather occurrence.
They were watching a dark cloud moving across the valley when they were astonished to see a twister forming. Jonathan quickly aimed his mobile phone camera at the mini-tornado and was able to capture it forming and then dissipating.
He said: “We were walking on Warbla and saw this twister forming. “It lasted for about a minute, moving very slowly, before it gradually disappeared back up into the clouds. It was really unusual to see it.”
