An afternoon stroll with a sudden twist

THEY may be a more common and spectacular sight in America’s mid-west but twisters are also a fairly frequent phenomenon in the UK.

Jonathan Hawes of Langholm captured this twister at Warbla on his mobile phone

Langholm man Jonathan Hawes and his son, Reece, were walking on Warbla last Tuesday afternoon when they spotted a freak weather occurrence.

They were watching a dark cloud moving across the valley when they were astonished to see a twister forming. Jonathan quickly aimed his mobile phone camera at the mini-tornado and was able to capture it forming and then dissipating.

He said: “We were walking on Warbla and saw this twister forming. “It lasted for about a minute, moving very slowly, before it gradually disappeared back up into the clouds. It was really unusual to see it.”
