Fifteen arrests on first day of Penrith's Kendal Calling festival

Fifteen people were arrested at Kendal Calling on the first day of the police operation covering the sold-out Cumbrian music festival.

Arrests were made for a mixture of alleged drug offences and other crimes after officers began monitoring the event ahead of the first acts yesterday.

Police had said they would be on site at the festival, held near Penrith, to deter criminals and to make sure traffic flows properly.

Their operation started at midday on Thursday, with most of the arrests made throughout the following night.

Officers said in the first 24 hours of the operation:

  • Four arrests were made for suspected theft;
  • Four suspects were held for alleged possession of class A drugs;
  • Five arrests were made for possession of class B drugs;
  • One suspect was held for alleged possession of a blade;
  • One person was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police had previously said they would look out for drug dealers and users.
