Credit to young handlers

A FEW days of good weather saw many farmers trying to make the most of the harvest while the sun was shining, although ground conditions are proving unfavourable.

On Saturday I had the privilege to judge the prime cattle and young handlers at Penrith Show. A great show of cattle was presented, a credit to all exhibitors, but the hardest task was judging the young handlers because there was a large show of keen youngsters.

Prime lambs met a brisk trade and saw an average of 202p (see report) and prime cattle saw the best quality sharper and plainer types similar with prices peaking at 225.5p.
