A west Cumbrian firm has clinched a $1.4m (£900,000) contract to help develop offshore windfarms in the US.
Cleator Moor-based HiDef will provide aerial surveys of areas earmarked for turbines by the US Department of Energy under the deal.
The work will begin within days and marks the first time digital aerial surveys have been carried out in North America.
John Martin, chief executive of HiDef, said: “We have invested heavily in sensor technology, software and infrastructure to ensure we can scale our capability to the meet the demands that the project presents.”
The surveys will cover large areas of territorial waters off the US eastern seaboard which are under consideration for offshore windfarms.
HiDef is part of a consortium of organisations working on the project.
