Cumbria business boss with David Cameron in India

The boss of a group championing economic growth in parts of Cumbria is accompanying David Cameron on his trip to India.

Alex Birtles, chairman of Upper Eden Futures, is one of a 68-strong delegation with the Prime Minister, which also includes Richard Olver of BAE Systems and John Varley of Barclays bank.

Upper Eden Futures, is a new group promoting growth in Kirkby Stephen and Upper Eden, focusing on ways to promote the town as an ideal location to set up business.

The group has set itself two initial tasks – to extend the range of information to new businesses about the area and to develop a programme as to how best to market the area.

The Prime Minister is joined by dozens of British business executives and senior ministers The visit is the focus of the coalition Government’s early efforts to create a new “special relationship” with India.

Ministers are seeking to enhance trade links with the country.
