THE CHILDREN at Langholm Playcare held their own Common Riding last Wednesday when the guest of honour was Cornet Simon Richardson.

The role of Playcare’s Cornet was taken by Callum Jeffrey, who was supported by Thomas Scott and Finn Stewart.

A hound trail was held for the first time and the winner was Simon. The thistle was carried by Jessica Holding, the spade by Findlay Graham, the crown by Macy Cropper and the barley banna by Amy Forsyth.

Callum was presented with his sash and flag by the Cornet before he and his supporters rode up to ‘the monument’, placed out on the waterside. The fair was cried by Nicky Henderson.

After enjoying barley banna, fizzy fish and water, the heather besom parade followed the pipe band, led by John Innes.

After singing the Rose of Allandale and dancing a polka, everyone joined together to sing Auld Lang Syne.
