THE Langholm Common Riding concert in the Buccleuch Centre last Wednesday was very special, with both a semi-jubilee Cornet and jubilee Cornet joining the Cornet for the presentations.
The chairman was Roger Maxwell, who is chairman of the Common Riding committee, and the concert was produced by Alex Pool with his son David as compère. Margaret Howe was accompanist.
Marion Pool carried out the investiture of Cornet Simon Richardson, presenting him with his sash and riding crop. She also presented an inscribed shepherd’s crook to semi-jubilee Cornet Colin Irving and a painting of the Skippers Bridge to jubilee Cornet Billy Bell.
After the bands had played through to the centre, the pipe band led off the concert. The town band and junior band played later in the proceedings.
Young Steven Milligan sang once in each half, as did Jackie Beckett. The other solo singers were David Pool and Bob McLure. The Langholm Folk and Neil Borthwick and friends also entertained. The concert ended with a vote of thanks from the chairman and the company sang Bonnie Langholm, Auld Lang Syne and God Save the Queen.
