IT WAS a fine evening when Cornet Simon Richardson and his right and left-hand men Andrew Johnstone and Kevan Grieve left on the Henwell ride-out last Tuesday but it was rather chilly by the time they arrived at their destination where they were welcomed by a large number of people.

The Cornet had 59 mounted followers, among them 10 riders on ponies which had been judged at the Kilngreen by the Cornet’s parents Les and Kate Richardson.

The Henwoll perpetual trophy and a switch for best-turned-out pony and rider was presented by Cornet Richardson to Aylish Paisley, while Lyndsay Rae received a switch for second place. Both were donated by the Castle Craigs Club.

Castle Craigs president Kenneth Dickson thanked landowners John Paterson and Jim Wood.

After refreshments and presentations, the Cornet led the riders back to the town where there was a good turnout to see them.
