‘The races were a miserable failure while the wrestling was indifferent...’

AT A meeting of the supporters of the Common Riding held in the Town Hall about a fortnight ago, Mr James Lauder, blacksmith, was elected Cornet of this year. The sports are to be held this year on the holm above Langholm Lodge.

Cornet Paisley won by 7 votes

KC p24 Paisley July29 CHARLES Stewart Paisley, the 1935 Cornet, came from a well-known business family in the town and he still has relatives living here today, including his sister-in-law, Rosie Paisley, who is now 90.

KC p23 wet Mt Hooley July29 A SLIGHT frost was followed by a dull calm morning. Scarcely a breath of wind stirred but the air was chilly. When the fife and drum band heralded the advent of another Common Riding, there were many to answer the call, and go forth to participate in the first item of the programme – the hound trail.
