Cornets meet for ride-out
LANGHOLM’S Cornet Derek Hogg, along with his right and left-hand men Simon Richardson and Andrew Johnstone, joined the Hawick Cornet Jamie Richardson for the Mosspeeble ride-out last Saturday. The 28-mile ride-out set off at midday arriving at Mosspaul after three hours in the saddle. The cavalcade left two hours later, returning to Hawick along Buccleuch Road. Hawick Saxhorn Band led the riders from Volunteer Park to Tower Knowe, arriving after another three-hour ride.

Fostering the spirit
THE Castle Craigs Club was begun in 1935 when a number of young Common Riding enthusiasts started up a club which had been proposed by the late ex-Cornet Wat Robinson.

The ex-Cornets Association was formed in 1928 at the instigation of the 1903 Cornet John Ewart who wanted to set up a body independent of the Common Riding committee.

Keeping tradition alive
Langholm’s businesses have been a cornerstone of the traditions of the Common Riding, providing jobs for the young men so they could stay in the town and achieve their ambition to be Cornet.
