Hooligan mob surround judges

ptriding19094 ANOTHER Common Riding has come and gone, and now that our fete-day is over, the predominant feeling is probably one of regret.THE flute band paraded the town on Wednesday morning playing “The Hundred Pipers” and the lieges awoke to find the sun shining with every prospect of a glorious day.AS THE time for presenting the Standard drew near, the High Street took on an unusually animated appearance, and nervous people did well to keep to the pavement.AFTER the races for the forenoon were over the crowd adjourned to the wrestling ring, erected in its usual place at the south corner of the Castleholm.THE entry for the 120 yards handicap was a smaller one than usual, and contained very few runners from a distance, although two of these reached the final stage.
