Grant Seaton, 34, branch manager of the Cumberland Building Society, is taking part in the Great North Run alongside friend James O’Neill, 32.

The pair, from Annan, decided to try to raise as much cash as possible for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research after childhood friend Lesley-Ann Johnstone was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March.

Lesley-Ann, 33, is now six weeks away from completing her treatment, which she said is going well, and is also helping to raise money and has vowed to cheer on her friends.

She told the News and Star: “I am really delighted that Grant and James are doing this for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

“I didn’t know much about lymphoma before I was diagnosed. But it affects people in our age group. The number of people being diagnosed has risen by 40 per cent in the UK, it is scary. The money Grant and James raise will go towards research into why this is happening.”

Grant and James have raised around £500 so far but want to reach £3,000 to £4,000.

Lesley-Ann was the chief bridesmaid at Grant’s wedding.

After completing the Great North Run in September, Grant also plans to push himself to the limit in the Cumbrian Run in October.

He said: “We want to raise as much money as possible and hope people get behind us to help us reach our target.”

To help raise funds a charity auction, including top prizes such as signed football tops, is being held in the Blue Bell Hotel in Annan on August 21.
