Votes made a difference

THROUGH your columns can I thank everybody who helped me in my General Election campaign, in particular those who voted for me in Langholm and Eskdale last Thursday.

I was genuinely humbled at the level of support I achieved in this region and I commit again to work for everybody in the constituency whether they voted for me or not and to continue to support our communities and organisations to regenerate the Muckle Toon and beyond.

I will be taking forward as a priority the Borderlands Growth Deal which was committed in the Conservative manifesto and has the potential to be a real game changer in terms of jobs and investment in Langholm and Eskdale.

My thanks to everybody, whose door I knocked on, for their civility and to my opponents for a fair and good-natured contest.

I enjoyed the opportunity the campaign gave me to get round the area and meet so many people. I look forward to doing that again in my summer surgery tour which will take place in the coming weeks and cover all communities.

Voting does make a difference as last Thursday again showed. Local votes at the election dealt a decisive blow to the threat of another independence referendum in the foreseeable future and hopefully not for a generation as the SNP promised in 2014.

Thank you again to everyone who made that happen.

David Mundell

MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale.
