Thank you for your support
I WOULD like to provide your readers with an update on the work of our steering group and its plans to bring the Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser into community ownership.
Firstly, I would like to thank all businesses, groups and individuals who have taken time to write to LEADER Dumfries and Galloway in support of our application for a grant for this project. We are very grateful for these letters and they have been submitted along with our application.
It is important for projects such as this that there is clear evidence of community support and we hope that the enthusiasm and commitment which are evident in the many letters will convince LEADER that our proposal to revive an unprofitable business through community ownership is a viable long-term solution.
Decision Day for LEADER support is March 8 and that will leave us with about four weeks to put the rest of the business plan in place and prepare the Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser to become a community-owned and community -run business.
We’ll let you know as soon as we hear whether our application has been successful.
In the meantime, we’re still collecting your ideas as to what you would like (and not like) to see in the paper and, hopefully, by early April, we’ll be ready to recruit our first group of ‘community contributors’ and prepare the E&L for its new future.
Steering Group Chairman
