Brilliant Bowholm have Winton wilting

Bowholm 4 Winton 0 BOWHOLM recorded the season’s best result against a team which came to Canonbie unbeaten and full of confidence, but went home rather demoralised.

Brian Mattinson was in sparkling form for Bowholm, bagging the first two goals against Winton

Bowholm never let Winton settle on the ball and when in possession, they attacked with real purpose. Centre forward Brian Mattinson was on fire and scored Bowholm’s first goal. A through ball from Stix Muir sent him away and he left the defence trailing in his wake. He clinically sent his left-foot shot into the net giving the keeper no chance.

Mattinson scored his second when he flew past two defenders down the left, cut into the area and nonchalantly stroked the ball past the keeper.

Winton would not give up and took the game to Bowholm but the home team held firm and were dangerous on the break.

Mattinson turned provider next time, his pace taking him past the defence down the right and he squared the ball to Barry Rayson, whose shot curled into the bottom corner giving Bowholm a commanding 3-0 half-time lead.

They got their fourth goal when Muir headed home from a corner and put paid to any thoughts of a comeback from Winton.

This was a terrific performance from the whole squad and the win keeps the team challenging at the top of the table.
