Gardner opens Legion's season

Langholm Legion 4 Hawick Legion 1 LANGHOLM made a bright start in their first home game last Tuesday and attacked the opposition with every opportunity.

The crowd didn’t have to wait long for a goal when Gardner headed home from a Borthwick corner. They continued to batter at Hawick’s door and created numerous chances before Little picked up the ball just inside the Hawick half and used his blistering pace to fly by two defenders and coolly slot away their second.

Hawick started to get a foothold but the back four of Cuthbert, Thomlinson, Gardner and Lamb never looked in trouble.

A couple of minutes before half time Davidson got in on the act, rising above two markers to head home an Anderson cross.

Langholm added to their tally in the second half when the impressive Anderson used a combination of pace, power and guile to beat his marker and burst into the penalty box where the defender chopped him down. Gardner made no mistake from the spot.

Josh Haldane and Calum Ireland came on for their competitive debuts, along with player manager Steve Lamb.

Hawick then took possession and nicked a consolation goal through Monteith with six minutes to go.
